CARDS MADE WITH SCRAPS-CHRISTMAS IN JULY
Well, we can’t finish July off without mentioning Christmas In July! It’s just a right of passage, don’t you think? So I thought about it for a while, and decided on showing you some simple cards made with lots of scraps of patterned paper.
I’m sure you all have those piles of “pieces” of patterned paper collecting dust in your craft room. What to do with them….hmmm. There has to be a way to use those up, right?
I’m about to share with you some Christmas card ideas using those scraps. There will be a total of 5 cards I’m going to share with you this week. So keep checking back each day, or wait til the end of the week to see what I’ve come up with!

Monday’s Card
Triangle Paper Tree Card
Firstly, just gather together all your Christmas themed paper scraps, and Christmas embellishments you have left over from other years. Gather them all together in a pile. You will be sifting through these to make your cards made with scraps.
For your card fronts, take a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 white cardstock, and cut three pieces that are 5 1/4 x 4 inches.
Next you’re going to take 3 pieces of patterned paper (each pattern different), and cut two pieces to 4 x 2 inches. Then one at 4 x 2 1/2 inches.
Now you want to cut one triangle out of each piece. You can just cut them by hand, or you can measure them, or even use your paper cutter.
With the card front I decided to take one of my embossing folders, that kind of looks like snow, and add some texture to it.
After deciding how I wanted to place my “trees”, I glued them down. I also attached a gold piece of ribbon across the bottom. It just added that extra sparkle.
For the largest tree, I attached some pop dots/foam squares to it before adhering it down. It’s nice to add a little dimension.
Then I found a chipboard Christmas sentiment to attach to the front of my card. I also adhered that, even though it was sticky already, using Glossy Accents. I just hate it when I receive a card and after a while it starts falling apart. So the Glossy Accents helps prevent that from happening.
And for the final little bit of sparkle, I chose to add some white glitter Stickles to the snowy dots. I just think that adds the perfect little touch that brings it up a notch! What do you think?
Tuesday’s Card
Christmas Ornament Card
Do you have some leftover border stickers, or washi tape? I know I’ve been talking about cards made with scraps, but I think the stickers and the washi kind of qualify. Christmas themed or colored, of course. We are going to make a Christmas ornament. Just line up the stickers or washi in about a 3 inch square on some white cardstock.
Now you want to get a 2 inch circle punch and punch out your ornament circle. Isn’t that quick? Gotta love that.
For the card front, find a nice texture folder…like this cute snowflake. It just adds that little bit of pizzaz!
Now let’s attach that ornament. I used some foam tape to give it just a little lift off that card front.
We’re getting to the final stages. You need something to attach to that ornament. I think this gold sparkly twine will work perfectly! And I added a tiny bow out of this twine to the top of the ornament.
Lastly, I found a nice chipboard sentiment and decided to add some white stickles to some of the snowflakes. You know…to kick it up a notch!

Wednesday’s Card
Paper Roll Tree Card
Well, another day, another card! This is kinda fun, except…it’s still summer! Oh well, let’s continue.
I gathered some scraps of paper from a Prima collection I had. You’re going to do a lot more cutting with this one, but it sure looks awesome when you’re done. So get your paper trimmer out.
Here’s the cuts you need:
- 1st Pattern – 3 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches long; 2 1/4 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches long; 1 1/2 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches long; 3/4 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches long.
- 2nd Pattern – 2 3/4 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches long; 2 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches long; 1 1/4 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches long; 1/2 inch wide x 1 1/2 inches long.
- 3rd Pattern – 2 1/2 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches long; 1 3/4 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches long; 1 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches long.
Please Note: I made a mistake on mine at the beginning. I did only 6 rolls instead of 12. That’s why there are some missing in these couple of photos.
Now we are going to roll our patterned pieces. You will need a skewer stick for this. Once you start it off–get the first turn done, it gets much easier to roll the rest of the piece.
Then once you get almost to the end of the roll, take some Glossy Accents (or something similar) to put across the end. This keeps the roll from unrolling.
And you just repeat this step til you have 11 rolls! I know…but you will get faster with each one.
Before you attach the rolls onto the card front, make a mark 1 1/2 inches from the bottom approximately in the middle (don’t worry, you don’t have to be exactly in the middle).
Glue the longest roll over the line with some Glossy Accents (or similar). And go up from there, decreasing in size each time. Just gluing them on.
Once I was done, I added a cute little metal snowflake charm to the top. For the trunk I used a piece I cut off of a border sticker. I also found some present stickers. For the final touch, I added a Christmas sentiment.
I love how this card turned out! It took more time than the other two cards, but this was so much fun!

Thursday’s Card
Shaker Gift Card Christmas Card
And now….Thursday’s card. I thought I would do something different for this one. I know a lot of us usually buy gift cards for many of our loved ones for Christmas. But what to put them in to make them a bit fancier?
Well, I have just the creation for you! Just get together a few different sequin colors, maybe a piece of patterned paper, a small paper bag, a small binding clip, and a sheet of acetate that’s made for collector cards.
First, put a little selection of mixed sequins in one of the clear pockets of the acetate sheet. I also found these K & Company Christmas transparencies, so I put a few of the small ones in the pocket, too.
Tip:
When you use the Fuse tool for sealing your pocket, make sure that you let the Fuse warm up for at least 20 minutes. This is very important for getting a good seal!
Once you have the pocket sealed, you just have to put your pocket together. I glued a strip of gold pattern paper to the bottom of the paper bag. I then found this amazing Santa Claus in some leftover diecuts. I glued him to the very edge of the paper bag, then attached the shaker with the small binder clip.
All that is left is to put a gift card in the paper bag! Don’t you think it’s cute?
Friday’s Card
Christmas Snowflake Tag
OMG! It’s the end of the week already? That went just way too fast! For my final Christmas card, I decided to try a tag. Everyone loves a beautiful tag! Again I think this qualifies as scraps of paper.
You can send it as a card, use it on a present, or even hang it on your tree (if you feel so inclined). So let’s get started…
I found a nice brown paper with snowflakes on it. Perfect! I grabbed a tag out of my “tag drawer” (drawer of 100 million tags–so it seems)! Anyone got a tag drawer like that? And I found this sweet metal snowflake charm.
First, put some adhesive on one side of the tag, then put it onto the back of your paper. Then take some scissors and trim the excess away from the tag.
Now I thought to add some “snow” onto the bottom of my tag. How can I make a nice curve? Hmmm…then I thought…I have my Dylusions Dyan Reavely clear ruler with the curved side. It worked perfectly!
I then wanted to put a sentiment on it. I tried one of my topnote punches.
Well, that one was too small. So I tried my other punch that was a bit bigger. Much better.
Instead of a sentiment, I decided to go with a “To” and “From”. I tried to match the ink to the paper, or close enough.
In case you were wondering where I got these pretty stamps, it was from Michaels. It was one of their Recollections brands.
To give the tag a bit of dimension, I used pop dots.
Then I inked the edges of the tag, and the topnote. I also took a pen and went over the outline of the “snow”.
I used my Wink Of Stella pen in white to go over the snow to give it a little sparkle. It ended up looking terrible. I don’t know what I did. Anyway…
I found a little bottle of cute little snowflakes. I believe I got them from Target. They are clear iridescent.
I know they look colored in these pictures, but they really are clear iridescent.
So what do you think? I finished it up by adding some silver ribbon, silver twine, and a cute white rose in the middle of the snowflake.
