HOW TO CONVERT AN EPSON ECOTANK TO A SUBLIMATION PRINTER

Are you thinking of trying out sublimation? Not sure yet, but want to know more?

Sublimation ink turns into a gas, when heated, and infuses itself into the item you are sublimating on.

If you are wanting to make a mug, for example, you would print off the design using sublimation ink, and special sublimation paper. You would then tape it onto your “blank” (which is coated especially for sublimation) with heat resistant tape. Then when you heat it, the ink embeds itself into the fibers of the mug. You now have a mug that will last a very long time without worrying about the design coming off.

To sublimate on a shirt, you need a high polyester count (like 65% or more). You can also sublimate on cotton as long as you are using white glitter printable vinyl, or a special sublimation coating spray on the shirt.

There are many, many sublimation blanks—too many to mention them all here. I suggest checking out Etsy, and typing in “sublimation blanks”. The possibilities are almost endless!

If you don’t want to spend an arm, and two legs for an actual sublimation printer (like a Sawgrass), you can get a much more cost effective Epson Ecotank to do the job. I bought the most budget-friendly Ecotank…the Epson Ecotank 2750.

The downside to this is that you have to set it up with sublimation ink, and keep it as a dedicated sublimation printer. You don’t want to be changing out inks all the time.

The video below is a step-by-step tutorial showing you how to put the sublimation inks into your Ecotank, so you can start sublimating right away!

I can hear you….you’re thinking “no way can I do that, it’s too hard”. It’s really not as hard as you think it might be. After all, we are starting out with a brand new printer. Just follow along with my video, and stop, start, and re-watch as much as you want.
